Drum players get a bang out of raising cash for Africans in need

OGDEN -- Encouraged by its success in raising money to provide a well for a village in Ghana, a local group now wants to start an orphanage in Liberia.

Kathy Gambles said she loves the way she feels after spending a couple of hours playing African drums. She and a group of friends drummed once a month through last winter and spring at the Eccles Community Art Center and raised enough money to build a well.

Drum circle event planned in Ogden

OGDEN -- Bring your djembe drum or use one that has been provided at a drum circle at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Eccles Community Art Center, 2580 Jefferson Ave.

Drum circle provides break from daily stress

OGDEN — For a few hours each Friday night, a circle of drummers descends upon Dee Sports Park in Ogden and beat their cares away.

Anyone is invited to participate, whether they want to dance, drum or just sit on a blanket and watch.

The music is therapeutic, said Kathy Wood, founder of Wellness Rhythms.
