Weber County hiring economic development director, hoping fresh eye will attract businesses

OGDEN — The Weber County Commission wants to change the way business is done in the county.

The Board of County Commissioners announced this week that it is rethinking “the business model upon which the county’s economic development efforts operate.”

The county hopes to diversify its economic development efforts and will hire someone in-house to accomplish this.

Box Elder County names new director

BRIGHAM CITY — Willard resident Mitch Zundel has been named Box Elder County’s economic development director.

The former Brigham City real estate agent has an undergraduate degree from Utah State University in business information systems and a master of business administration. He is a member of the Willard City Council.

Morgan County hires planning director

MORGAN — After beating out 22 other applicants, Blaine Gehring officially got his start as Morgan County’s new planning and development services department director on March 12.

Family Dollar to build $80M distribution center in Southern Utah

Former Ogden mayor to help Morgan lure a hotel, boost economy

MORGAN — Morgan city has accepted a contract with former Ogden Mayor Matthew Godfrey for economic development activities, including grant writing and wooing a hotel developer to the area.

“He has the expertise to pull everything together and bring a hotel to town. He’s done it,” Councilman Ray Little said.

Big Lots to take former Reams grocery store spot in Layton

LAYTON — Big Lots will soon fill the vacancy left when the Reams grocery store closed in August.

Big Lots, currently near the Layton Hills Mall at 495 W. 1425 North, will move into a 47,000-square-foot building at 1040 N. Main St., next to the Reams Western Wear store.

As mayor of a city, I often find myself in random conversations with those I serve as an elected official.

Vickie McCall is receiving the Wall of Fame award from the Ogden-Weber Chamber of Commerce. The Wall of Fame honors those who have made major contributions to the community over time. McCall, a Realtor with Utah Executive Real Estate, started with the Ogden-Weber Chamber 35 years ago. She soon joined several committees, such as military affairs, Women in Business and legislative affairs.
