OGDEN -- The Humane Society of Northern Utah is looking for a new home and some new members.
The organization is holding several membership drives and hopes to recruit both members and volunteers. It is also looking for a new place with a large meeting room.
"Right now the Humane Society of Northern Utah is using the existing Ogden City Animal Shelter for meetings," said Debbie Barnes, president of the organization. "The shelter is consolidating with the Weber County Animal Shelter, and this facility may no longer be available to us."
Barnes said not only would an office with a large conference room be ideal, but space for future adoptions also is on the wish list.
"Right now when we take animals, we must find foster families for them," she said. "These wonderful volunteers care for the animals until a permanent, loving home can be found."
The organization also needs more volunteers, Barnes said. Several member drives aim to recruit both volunteers and members. Fundraisers also are being planned at festivities that include the Ogden Farmer's Market and Harvest Moon. Students in a woodshop class at North Ogden Junior High School built and donated a dog house to use for fundraising, Barnes said.
"It's big enough for a large dog or for a palace for a spoiled little dog."
The Humane Society's mission is to prevent cruelty to animals and alleviate fear, pain and suffering through public education, adoption and advocacy. The tax exempt organization is seeking to establish an emergency medical fund, a spay/neuter program and a safe-haven sanctuary where animals can live out their lives with love and kindness from others.
"We are here to help. Our concern is for the welfare of animals, and money raised goes to that end," Barnes said.
