SALT LAKE CITY -- State education officials say Utah's high school graduation is up to about 90 percent for the last school year.
Figures from the State Office of Education show that the rates for the class of 2010 was up 2 percentage points from the class of 2009.
State data also shows the rates rose among Utah's ethnic groups and that rate gaps narrowed between white students and minorities such as Latinos, American Indians and blacks.
But the Salt Lake Tribune reports that the numbers could drop for the current school year, when the state will have to use the federal government's formula to calculate graduation rates. The nationwide change is part of an effort to ensure rates aren't inflated and to make state-to-state comparisons easier.
