The 2011 Huntsman Awards for Excellence in Education shows some of the state's best educators are nurturing young minds in the Top of Utah.
Of the 10 awards to be given this year, one goes to Ray Long, principal at Plain City's Fremont High School, and two to teachers in Syracuse: Sally Ogilvie at Syracuse Elementary School and Joanne Spencer at Bluff Ridge Elementary School.
Winners receive a crystal obelisk and a $10,000 check from the Huntsman family. This is the 19th year for the Huntsman Awards, and there have been 191 previous winners.
"The 2011 recipients were selected from an impressive array of nominations, which made the process of choosing only 10 educators extremely challenging," Karen Huntsman said in a statement on behalf of herself and husband Jon Huntsman Sr.
"We are very proud of this year's winners in their own right and as representatives of their fellow educators across the state, all of whom we hope to eventually honor."
This year's winners will be honored at a banquet Friday at Little America Hotel.
