OGDEN -- A group of Ogden School District teachers, forced by the district to sign new contracts by July 20 or to lose their jobs, plans a protest rally on Thursday.
Teachers, told to wear red as a sign of solidarity, will meet at 10 a.m. at Liberty Park, 21st Street and Monroe Avenue. After discussing contract issues among themselves and with concerned citizens, the teachers plan to walk their signed contracts to the school district offices, at 1950 Monroe Blvd.
Teachers hope to meet with administrators to express dissatisfaction with the district's decision to abandon the negotiations process with the Ogden Education Association, and to force teachers holding 709 full-time-equivalent positions to choose between signing and job loss. Representatives from the O.E.A., the Utah Education Association and the National Education Association plan to attend.
