Is email dead? Prof says 'yes'

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — If you send an email to Paul Jones, you won’t hear back from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill professor. You will, however, receive an automated reply that could only have come from him.

"Good Bye Email, I’m divesting," reads the subject line. The message says that Jones gave up email on June 1, 2011, and goes on to suggest more than a dozen ways to contact him: through Facebook, Twitter, Google +, Gtalk, AIM, Skype, LinkedIn, even YouTube.

Gmail leaving mark on spam messages

What's lurking in your spam folder? Maybe you never look, but maybe you should. Last week, Gmail added labels to messages sent to users' spam folders that identify potentially dangerous mail. Gmail users will now be able to see why messages were marked as spam.

Digital Biz: A multifaceted effort can keep you connected with customers

Let me ask you something. How many people do you think have purchased something from your business in the past year alone? Now let me ask you this: Have you made some kind of effort to stay in touch with these customers? If not, why?

It's important to get your customers' contact information, because it's far easier and much cheaper to sell to current customers than it is to acquire new ones. Thanks to the Internet, it's possible to do this in a very cost-effective manner. Let's see how this can be done:
