Money missing, exec at Utah heritage park fired

SALT LAKE CITY -- An official says the executive at This Is The Place Heritage Park has been fired, and Salt Lake City police are investigating the discovery that more than $240,000 is missing.

Park foundation Chairman Ellis Ivory tells the Salt Lake Tribune that Matt Dahl was dismissed following an audit of the park's $3.5 million budget.

The Tribune says Dahl didn't return messages seeking comment.

He was hired at the Salt Lake City attraction nearly five years ago.

The park memorializes Utah's pioneer past.

State lawmakers gave it a $2 million emergency bailout in March 2006.

Since then, Ivory says attendance has grown from about 50,000 visitors a year to more than 275,000.
