Syracuse man charged with mail fraud, money laundering

SALT LAKE CITY -- A 36-year-old Syracuse man is facing at least 20 years in a federal prison for embezzling $1.3 million from a trucking company, according to court documents.

IRS recruits casino workers to track white-collar crime

LAS VEGAS -- Several months ago, Internal Revenue Service agents who investigate financial crimes in Las Vegas began calling big casinos to set up meetings with their employees. The calls were friendly. In fact, the IRS needed the casinos' help. The feds were asking floor workers to drop a dime and report suspicious people gambling with lots of money.

Ogden livestock feed company facing federal fraud charges

OGDEN -- The federal government is accusing two men who operated an Ogden livestock feed company of fraud for obtaining $5.8 million by exporting nonfat dry milk overseas that was supposed to help drought- stricken ranchers.

IRS union funds missing; 2,000 local workers told of investigation into 'significant' loss

OGDEN -- An investigation is under way regarding a significant sum of money missing from the Ogden chapter of a union that represents about 2,000 local Internal Revenue Service employees.

SALT LAKE CITY -- A former Davis School District secretary who admitted stealing more than $330,000 in textbook funds between 1999 and 2005 was sentenced in federal court Thursday to a year and a day in prison.

Tribe suspends top economic development executives

BRIGHAM CITY — The Northwestern Band of the Shoshone tribal council has suspended the top two executives of the tribe's economic development company after a company accountant leveled allegations of embezzlement, tax fraud and corporate mismanagement.
