Peery's Egyptian Theater documentary in the works

"Peery's Egyptian Theater: Ogden's Historic Treasure" is a new documentary DVD that examines the history of the theater from the time it opened its doors on July 3, 1924, through the present.

When deciding how to fashion their theater, brothers Harman and Louis Peery looked to the interest in Egyptology that was rampant at the time with the discovery of King Tutankhamun's tomb.

The movie palace became the entertainment and information center for Ogden-area residents during the Great Depression and World War II years.

The documentary is told in the voices of the people who fought to save the historic theater after it fell on hard times.

The DVD was produced by the Standard- Examiner and the Egyptian Theatre Foundation, with partial funding provided through a Weber County RAMP grant.

The DVD will be available for purchase at Peery's Egyptian Theater, 2415 Washington Blvd., starting July 9.

There will also be a brief preview showing at the theater that day.
