Edward or Jacob? Midnight premiere of 'Eclipse' brings rivalry, fans, festivities, to Ogden's Megaplex 13

Teams Edward and Jacob, along with a bevy of Bella buffs, will gather tonight at Ogden's Megaplex 13 at the Junction for an evening of festivities to culminate in the midnight local debut of "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse."

Similar Twilight Eclipse Festivals are scheduled for Megaplex theaters in Sandy and Lehi.

The evening will include a Volturi Costume Ball, photos with Bella, Jacob and Edward look-alikes, prize giveaways, costume contests, and live entertainment by a local band, to be announced. Ticket packages are $25 or $45.

"We have tentative arrangements to bring in a cast member," said Jeff Whipple, Megaplex spokesman. "Not one of the big three, but a member of the Volturi."

The Volturi are, of course, an Italian coven of ancient vampires that enforces vampire rules that keep the community secret from humans. Any devotee of BYU graduate Stephenie Meyers and her vampire book series could tell you that.

The first and second films in the franchise made $393 million and nearly $710 million, respectively.

"This will likely be the biggest movie of the year for Utah movie fans," said Blake Andersen, Megaplex Theatres senior vice president and general manager, in a statement. Whipple said by Monday afternoon, nearly 500 people had bought tickets to attend the "Twilight" event at Ogden's Megaplex 13, with an additional rush expected today.

Check-in begins at 6:30 p.m.; Twi-fest vendors will sell their wares from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.; the costume ball is at 7 p.m.; the photo opportunity with Bella, Jacob and Edward look-alikes starts at 7:30 p.m. and lasts an hour (bring your own camera or buy a photographer's print); prize giveaways are at 8:30, 10:30 and 11:30 p.m.; the costume contest is at 9:30 p.m.: and the "Gathering of the Pack" will be at 11:45 p.m.

The film rolls at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, and screenings continue through the night. The film is rated PG-13.

"It will be virtually around the clock for at least the first 24 hours, based on guest demand," Whipple said. "We got a huge response for the last film, and we think this one will be even bigger."
