New outbreak of equine herpes in Calif.

SANTA ANA, Calif. -- An outbreak of a deadly virus has horse trainers and owners in Riverside and Orange counties fearful for the health of their animals.

All horse quarantines lifted after virus outbreak

SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah agriculture officials say all quarantine orders issued to prevent the spread of a potentially deadly horse virus have now been lifted.

Another equine herpes case confirmed in Washington

PULLMAN, Wash. -- A privately-owned horse admitted to Washington State University's College of Veterinary Medicine teaching hospital for an unrelated emergency intestinal illness has been confirmed positive for Equine Herpes Virus or EHV-1.

Pioneer Days will go as planned, despite EHV-1

OGDEN -- The Horse and Hitch parade and all other events associated with the Ogden Pioneer Days rodeo next month will go on as planned and will even be enhanced, organizers say.

Nothing will be limited by an equine herpes virus type 1 scare that caused those in the horse industry to cancel events this spring, they say.

"We are hoping people from Salt Lake City will come," said Tracy Smith, director of the Ogden Pioneer Days Horse and Hitch parade.

State vet: No new cases of EHV-1

OGDEN -- The presence of equine herpes virus in horses in Utah has declined to the point that horse owners should feel free to participate in rodeos, shows, parades and other events, the state veterinarian's office states in a news release.

Ogden horse parade still on calendar

OGDEN -- With a Friday announcement that the annual Salt Lake City Days of '47 All Horse Parade is canceled, there is speculation that Ogden's Pioneer Days Horse and Hitch parade could fall to the same fate brought on by a scare of transmitting equine herpes virus, EHV-1.

Pony Express re-enactment postponed due to EHV-1 virus

RENO, Nev. -- Neither rain, nor sleet, nor dark of night could keep Pony Express riders from their appointed rounds, so the story goes. But a deadly horse virus is another matter.

For the first time in its 32-year history, the National Pony Express Association is postponing its annual re-enactment of the famous ride from St. Joseph, Mo., to Sacramento this summer due to an outbreak of the equine herpes virus EHV-1.

The 10-day ride is being pushed from June to August.
