Foxboro Elementary in NSL might go year-round

FARMINGTON -- As a result of significant growth, one Davis district school will likely go year-round starting next school year.

LDS public relations topic for Ogden SUP

OGDEN -- The Ogden Pioneer Chapter Sons of the Utah Pioneers will meet at noon Monday at Comfort Suites Inn, 2250 S. 1200 West.

Blake Whalen will speak about "Public Relations for the LDS Church."

Whalen is the general manager of The Boyer Company at Business Depot Ogden. He also is the director of the Utah Public Relations Council for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The cost of one meeting for potential members is paid for by the chapter. For other guests, there is a $12.50 charge.

Free current events forum today at WSU

OGDEN -- Weber State University will host a Times and Issues Forum today.

The free event, designed to explore and discuss current events, will be at 10:30 a.m. in the Lair of the Shepherd Union Building.

WSU to host talk on slavery, Constitution

OGDEN — Weber State University will host a talk, “Weber Reads: Slavery and the Constitution,” at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Stewart Library Hetzel-Hoellein Room.

Ogden FOE plans benefit for officers involved in shooting

OGDEN — The Fraternal Order of Eagles, 975 Wall Ave., will have a Spanish-language dance to benefit the police officers involved in a Jan. 4 shooting.

SALT LAKE CITY -- Evidence of an explosion of interest and technology is the best way to describe the RootsTech genealogy conference, which runs through today at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City.

Vickie McCall is receiving the Wall of Fame award from the Ogden-Weber Chamber of Commerce. The Wall of Fame honors those who have made major contributions to the community over time. McCall, a Realtor with Utah Executive Real Estate, started with the Ogden-Weber Chamber 35 years ago. She soon joined several committees, such as military affairs, Women in Business and legislative affairs. OGDEN -- During her more than three decades of service, Vickie McCall has worn many hats with the Ogden-Weber Chamber of Commerce, even the prestigious Big Hat.

Congressional candidate rants onstage at dinner, may be cited

TREMONTON -- Police are recommending that Tremonton's city attorney cite a declared candidate for Congress in Utah's 1st District for misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct because of an incident at Saturday night's Lincoln Day Dinner.

North Ogden plans to rescind utility shut-off resolution

NORTH OGDEN -- Residents who don't pay their code violation fines may soon get a reprieve.

The council plans to rescind a resolution passed in October that allows the city to shut off major utilities if citations for code violations aren't paid.

The historic cabin of Miles Goodyear is moved from the site of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Ogden Temple, which is being remodeled, to a temporary site in November. The cabin will be moved, along with the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Museum, to a new permanent site in Ogden. Weber County DUP museum changing locations today

OGDEN -- After spending the past few months in limbo, a pair of historic buildings owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will soon have permanent homes.

More than 100 years of history will move a few city blocks today as the Weber County Daughters of Utah Pioneers Museum building will be moved from its current location at 2148 Grant Ave. to 2104 Lincoln Ave. on a half-acre lot donated by the city.

GI forum seeks photos for tribute

OGDEN — The American GI Forum is collecting pictures of Latino military veterans, both living and deceased, as well as active-duty soldiers, for a tribute video.

The video will be presented at the group’s first Military Recognition Ball on Feb. 11 at the Marriott Hotel, 247 24th St., Ogden. Organizers hope to make the event an annual one.

Photos must include name, branch and dates of service. Subjects do not have to be in uniform, but it is preferred.

Public invited to hear talk on Chinese film

OGDEN — The public is invited to hear Greg S. Lewis, professor of Asian and world history at Weber State University, speak on Chinese cinema from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Ogden Golf and Country Club.

WSU to host volunteer fair on Wednesday

OGDEN — Weber State University’s Community Involvement Center will host a volunteer fair from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Shepherd Union Atrium.

Representatives from more than 30 community agencies will be on hand to offer volunteer opportunities.

Ogden council to hear streetcar input tonight

OGDEN -- The great Ogden streetcar debate is set to heat up again. The Ogden City Council will hold a special fact-finding work session tonight to discuss the viability of a streetcar project in the city.
