BOUNTIFUL — A health and wellness fair is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 15-16 at South Davis Recreation Center, 200 West and 400 South.

OGDEN -- Ashley Wood, a sixth-grader, suspected men might be more observant of their surroundings than women are.

Sixth-grader Preston Smith grew up hearing about the time his father's house burned down and wondered if some woods are more flammable than others.

And eighth-grader Hunter James wondered if heating or freezing paintballs could enhance his accuracy when shooting his uncles during family paintball battles.

All three students got their answers by doing experiments good enough to qualify for the Ritchey Science & Engineering Fair of Utah.

The annual goodbye-to-summer, welcome-to-autumn that is the Utah State Fair is now under way.

Blue-ribbon critters and crafts, carnival rides, cooking demonstrations, fine arts, kids' activities and more deliver a cornucopia of fun for the whole family.

SALT LAKE CITY -- For the first time in its 155-year history, the Utah State fair is going smoke-free.

Utah State Fair spokeswoman Denise Allen says fair organizers adopted a nonsmoking policy because of second-hand smoke health concerns. She says many public events and venues are adopting similar policies.

PLAIN CITY -- If you attended the Weber County Fair this year, you probably saw some of Florene Parke's dish towels.
