LDS youths told 'The Time is Now' to draw closer to ancestors

OGDEN -- Latter-day Saint youths, their parents and leaders packed the Dee Events Center earlier this week to hear messages of encouragement from Area Seventy Lynn Summerhays and General Young Women's President Elaine Dalton.

The message to the young people from everyone was simple: "The Time is Now."

Sixteen-year-old Ogden High School sophomore Toph Tribe was somewhat intrigued when his mom came home from a church meeting and explained how simple it would be for him to do a little family history work from his home computer.

SALT LAKE CITY -- A big smile comes across Young Women's General President Elaine Dalton's face when she hears the word Ogden. Dalton grew up in Ogden and has fond memories of her childhood and young adult life in the city.

Ogden history center class set for Saturday

OGDEN — The Ogden Regional Family History Center will hold a class on what the Family Search Research Wiki is and how to use it this Saturday.

The wiki is a website, established and run by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, that contains guidance on family history research. Carol Moss, a supervisor in Family Search Community Services for the LDS church, will teach the one-hour class.

The class is scheduled for 10 a.m. in Room 12 at the Ogden center, 539 East 24th St.

Family history registration starts in Bountiful

Early registration for the annual South Davis Regional Family History Fair, sponsored by the Utah Genealogical Association, is under way and continues until Feb. 17.

The fair will be held Friday and Saturday, March 2-3, at Bountiful High School, 695 South Orchard Drive. Late registration and registration at the door will be available.

FARMINGTON -- The cozy-looking home that has served as the Davis County Children's Justice Center since 1997 was originally built in 1900 by Callene Sorensen's great-grandfather, John Joel Steed.

Wales research the class topic at the Family History Library

SALT LAKE CITY — The Family History Library is offering an all-day series of classes Saturday on Wales Research Peculiarities.

Topics include “Names, Geographical and Personal,” “Records and Research Strategies” and “Practice Time.” Classes will run from 9 a.m. to noon.

TREMONTON -- A fiber-optics ultra-high-speed UTOPIA broadband network at the Tremonton-Garland Family History Center has sped up the process somewhat and has allowed a capability of serving many more users at once for the last two years.
