Farr West nixes four-wheeler rodeo this year

FARR WEST - There will not be a four-wheeler rodeo at the Fourth of July celebration this year, according to Councilman Paul Dinsdale.

Dinsdale said the idea was scrapped due to insurance and liability concerns. He said the golf tournament will be part of the celebration and Remuda Golf Course has agreed to donate prizes if at least 80 people participate.

Dickemore named to chair committee in Farr West

FARR WEST - Councilman Lee Dickemore has been appointed chair of a committee that will review planning commission applicants. Dickemore said he would conduct the committee meetings, but would not vote on the planning commission applicants as part of the committee.

Farr West OKs next phase of subdivision

FARR WEST - Council members approved Phase 5 of Miya Meadows at approximately 2450 W 2700 N.

Developer Jeff Hales said construction of the sidewalks there still needs to be discussed, but it will be part of the walking route for students attending the new Wahlquist Junior High School.

Sewer plant nearly ready in Farr West

FARR WEST -- The new sewer plant is ready to start running, according to Councilman Tom Burkland.

Burkland said the only things left to complete on the $150 million project is landscaping and sidewalks.

Farr West approves paving company bid

FARR WEST -- Advanced Paving was approved by council members to do paving work on Farr West Drive and in the area of the city shops. Its bid came in the lowest of three at $31,520.

Farr West council combines city fees into one document

FARR WEST -- Scouring through the city municipal code and searching for various fees is like a treasure hunt, said Planning Commissioner Lou Best.

There has to be a more user-friendly way for the fees to be located, Best said.

For this reason, the planning commission has been working on a new fee schedule. The commission hoped to extract all the fees from the code and put them together in one place, then create a fee schedule, thereby making it much easier to locate fees.

Mayor Papageorge recovering at home

FARR WEST -- Mayor Jimmie Papageorge is recovering at home from what he calls a minor stroke.

Farr West city employees to get insurance refund

FARR WEST — City employees here will each receive a $700 refund thanks to a refund the city received from its health insurance provider, Public Employees Health Plan.

In addition, the city council agreed to also reward each employee with a $300 bonus because of their frugal use of health care benefits. Each of the six Farr West full-time employees will receive $1,000. Council members voted unanimously to approve the refund and bonus.

Tim Shupe named Farr West assistant mayor

Councilman Tim Shupe was appointed assistant mayor and will act as mayor at any time that Mayor Jimmie Papageorge is unable to perform his duties.

Farr West Fourth of July plans moving ahead

Councilman Paul Dinsdale said things are lining up for the city’s Fourth of July celebration. He said there will be a golf tournament and Remuda golf course is on board with it.

He also said the breakfast has been arranged as well as the fireworks and the arrangements for a volleyball tournament is in the works.

“We are making progress,” said Dinsdale.

Council OKs Beal for plan commission

FARR WEST-- Bonnie Beal was approved unanimously by council members as the new alternate planning commission member. Planning commissioner Lou Best said Beal has previously proved her interest in Farr West City by attending city meetings regularly.

Shupe appointed mayor pro tempore

FARR WEST — Councilman Tim Shupe was recently appointed mayor pro tempore and will act as mayor at any time that Mayor Jimmie Papageorge is unable to perform his duties.

Board reappoints planning members

FARR WEST -- Planning commission members Matt Gwynn and Ken Phippen have been reappointed to the commission.

Farr West changes meeting day

Council meetings have been changed to 7 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of each month.

Meetings have been held the first and third Wednesday of the month.

The change was made because a council member has a conflict with the Wednesday meeting times.

Council members unanimously approved the change.

The first meeting on the new schedule will be held on Feb. 2.

Councilman seeking lower speed limit

FARR WEST -- The speed limit on 2700 North is troubling to planning commission member Ken Phippen, who says it changes from 45 mph to 50 mph just as drivers enter Farr West, where a speed limit sign of 50 mph is posted near Arby's.
