SALT LAKE CITY -- Salt Lake City police are remembering an officer who was killed in the line of duty 10 years ago this month.
Officer Michael J. Dunman was hit and killed by a motorist on July 17, 2000.
The 30-year-old officer was on bicycle patrol when a vehicle jumped the curb and struck him from behind. He suffered massive head injuries and died after arriving at a hospital.
After a Utah Highway Patrol investigation, the driver was charged with negligent homicide. He was released on bail and fled the country.
Dunman left behind a wife and three children. He is buried in Bountiful City Cemetery.
