Ogden fire destroys garage, displaces two families

OGDEN -- Two families have been temporarily displaced after a garage caught fire Tuesday night and damaged three Ogden homes.

About 21 firefighters responded to the blaze at 3463 Grant Ave. around 10:30 p.m. The garage is not attached to the house at that address, but the fire managed to damage three homes in close proximity. Two homes must undergo repairs before those families can return, said Fire Battalion Chief Corey Barton.

The displaced residents found shelter overnight with friends and family.

Fire officials estimate the garage sustained $40,000 worth of damage and is a complete loss. The fire is still under investigation and it is unclear what could have caused the blaze. Barton said a van was inside the garage at time of the fire.

Crews attacked the fire from two sides, setting up supply lines from an alley on Franklin Avenue and another in front of the home on Grant Avenue. The fire was contained within about 20 minutes and completely out by midnight, Barton said.
