Woman dies in single-car rollover

CLEARFIELD -- An Ogden-area woman, Monica Waterfall, 38, died in a single-car rollover accident on southbound Interstate 15 on Sunday afternoon, police say.

According to a Utah Highway Patrol news release, drugs may have been a factor in the crash.

They believe the driver and a front passenger may have been arguing at the time of the crash.

Just before 4:30 p.m. the driver overcorrected and rolled the vehicle into the center median, police say.

Waterfall was one of four people in the Chevrolet Cobalt. She was a passenger in the rear and was ejected from the vehicle.

The driver was in critical condition, states the news release.

He was taken to a local hospital.

While the other two passengers were injured and taken to area hospitals, it was not known Sunday night how serious their injuries were.

One lane was open in each direction on the freeway following the accident and traffic was backed up for miles.

Police reported several residual crashes following the fatal crash, none of which were serious.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Nigbur said fatal single-car rollover crashes are not all that unusual in Utah.

"A lot of people in rural areas fall asleep at the wheel," he said.
