5 accused of causing $200,000 in damage across Davis, Weber counties

CLEARFIELD -- Five teenage boys were arrested Thursday morning in connection with a vandalism spree that caused damage estimated up to $200,000.

Police say the teens spent the last two months traveling from North Ogden to Kaysville, breaking vehicle windows almost nightly.

Clearfield Detective Kyle Jeffries said the police department received an attempt-to-locate broadcast after a person reported seeing someone throw a brick at a vehicle in Clinton. The description was sent out and the vehicle was located early Thursday morning.

Jeffrey Jensen, 18, Trevor McClintock, 18, Brandon Berry, 19, and Colby Hardson, 18, were arrested and booked into Davis County Jail on suspicion of criminal mischief, theft by receiving stolen property, and vehicle burglary.

"They are looking at second-degree felonies because of the amount of loss," Jeffries said.

A 17-year-old juvenile was arrested and released to his parents.

The damage the boys caused is estimated to be $100,000 to $200,000. Jensen said they have had more than 200 cases reported to the police that they believe the teenagers caused.

"There's probably a lot more than that that were not reported," he said.

When they were arrested, Jeffries said, the teens admitted to damaging vehicles by breaking windows with rocks, BB guns, airsoft guns, pumpkins, bricks, eggs and other items.

They also admitted to several vehicle burglaries in the area.

The vehicles targeted in the attacks were completely random, Jeffries said. The teens went throughout Weber and Davis counties, but Roy was hit particularly hard.

Jeffries said the boys were local, coming from Roy, Syracuse and Clearfield. He did not know how the teens knew each other or if any were currently high school students.

The reason for the crime spree?

"The kids were bored," Jeffries said. "They decided to cause some trouble."

Democracy at work

So for $200,000 damage done by five young males (they are not men) equals $40,000 each.  Divide that by the current minimum wage of $7.25 per hour and each guy only needs to work 5,334 (rounded up) to pay off their resitution.

And I would bet their parents will save money by having them follow sandyshoes plan - work days, jail at night, it would save lots of grocery money for mom and dad.

That will show them bored!!!

Nice idea, but....

Nice idea, but have you tried to find even a minimum wage job these days, and with a record? Not to mention you'd be asking employers to turn down hard working people desperatly looking for work in order to take on these four who are arguably too dumb to be let out in public without a leash. I wouldn't hire any of  them to sweep the sidewalk.

If they were that bored for that long.....

.....what were their parents doing?    These had to have been "street kids", out all the time, unsupervised with parents who gave them nanny-cellphones to text with.

I've raised a child to adulthood, and there's no way my child would have been able to get away with all of that.  Guaranteed.

I'd like to show them bored!

I'd like to show them bored! Jobs at mininum wage and pay for every single car window that was broken. Maybe jail at night. Parents that didn't teach them better can drive them to their jobs every day.

Boys or Men?

This article keeps saying, kids, boys, etc.  Wrong.  They are all grown men, and should be refered to as such.

This was not one drunken night where mistakes were made, trhis was a criminal enterprise run by morons.

Adults that go on lengthy crime sprees do prison time.

Throw the book.
