OGDEN -- Members of Canyon Road Assembly of God are inviting the public as they present the 20th anniversary celebration of the "Singing Christmas Tree" on Friday, Dec. 12 and Dec. 13.
The public is invited to reserve free tickets now.
The Singing Christmas Tree is a 20-foot-high structure that holds the church's 50-member choir. It's shaped and decorated like a Christmas tree.
"It's totally covered with Christmas tree branches and hundreds of lights," said Beverly Wead, Canyon Road Assembly of God music director. "There's a light show during the songs. We have lights that move with the beat of the music."
The Singing Christmas Tree will be the background for a Christmas worship musical titled "A Night of Hope."
The free event will be complete with drama and narration pointing people to Jesus, the answer to their hopeless situations, she said.
The drama will include scenes portraying a single father who has to have Christmas alone, a distraught father who is overburdened financially and a wife who has just learned that her husband has died in the war.
"Regardless of how bad your situation is, you can find hope through the birth of Jesus Christ at Christmas," Wead said. "He brings hope to your world."
All of the songs and the drama center around the theme of hope.
"The music goes from contemporary upbeat songs to more slow and serious," Wead said. "There is a live manger scene drama throughout the whole musical as well."
The music director said the goal of the presentation is to set the mood for the whole Christmas season for those who attend.
"We're trying to make it a special event this year since it is 20 years since we started it," Wead said.
There are more than 100 church members who participate in some way to bring the event to the public.
The community is invited to participate in one of four performances. They will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 12 and 6 p.m. Dec. 13.
A pre-show entertainment is planned for 30 minutes before each performance. There is also interpretation for the deaf at all performances.
Tickets may be reserved by calling the church office at (801) 621-2185 or by visiting the church Web site at www.canyonroadag.org and linking on to the Singing Christmas Tree.
There will be child care up to age 5 at all performances.
Canyon Road Assembly of God is at 1390 Canyon Road, just east of 12th Street and Harrison Boulevard on the north side of the road.
