MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE — Two women were taken to a hospital in serious condition following a crash at 1900 West and 1200 South this morning.
The accident occurred about 9:30 a.m. when a woman driving east on 1200 South in a blue Nissan Maxima failed to stop for a red light and went through the intersection of 1900 West. That vehicle, driven by Carrie Griggs, 39, was struck by a car heading south on 1900 West, said Weber County Sheriff’s Lt. Matthew Bell.
That car, a white Toyota Camry driven by Michelle Fretwell, 38, wound up crossing all lanes of traffic and rested on the east shoulder after the collision. Deputies are unsure how fast her car was traveling, but the speed limit in that area on 1900 West is 50 mph. Bell said Fretwell is six months pregnant.
Griggs was issued a citation for running a red light.
A second crash occurred at the intersection not long after that accident. Deputies had closed off all northbound traffic on 1900 West and were diverting those vehicles to 1200 South. Bell said a FedEx van was heading north on 1900 West when he turned onto 1200 South, but tried to make a quick U-turn to continue north. His van was struck by an SUV. None of the motorists involved in that wreck were injured.
