ROY — A single-vehicle crash Friday morning on Interstate 15 that may have begun with an incident of road rage injured a father and one of his two children.
Officials say Chris Devore, 31, of Layton, was driving a white Dodge pickup truck that crashed. Devore was reportedly not wearing a seat belt.
He was taken to Ogden Regional Medical Center, where doctors confirmed Devore had suffered a broken neck and took him into surgery.
A girl, 5, who was in the truck received a few minor cuts from flying glass, and a boy, 2, was not hurt, officials say.
Just before 9 a.m., the pickup rolled onto its top at high speed on southbound I-15 near the 5600 South exit in Roy, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Ellis Alexander.
Just moments before the crash, Devore may have been involved in a road rage incident with the driver of another white truck. That driver, identified as John Zeuthen, 49, of Ogden, was not hurt.
"(Devore) didn’t like that he had been passed," Alexander said. "They had been leapfrogging up the highway."
Alexander said the men gave different accounts of the incident, but UHP officials suspect the two exchanged vulgar gestures and cut in front of each other a few times before the crash.
The accident is still under investigation. When the investigation has been completed, UHP will screen charges with the Weber County Attorney’s Office, Alexander said.
So far, he said, it appears Devore may have been the more aggressive of the two drivers.
