Fire heavily damages vacant home on 12th Street in Ogden

OGDEN -- Fire heavily damaged an apparently abandoned house Thursday afternoon at 885 12th St.

Ogden Fire Capt. Steve Splinter said the blaze was called in by a fire department rescue unit that was driving along 12th Street with a patient about 3:30 p.m.

When firefighters from Ogden and North View fire departments arrived, the two-story stucco house was fully involved.

Firefighters knocked the blaze down quickly and were investigating the cause of the fire.

Joe Gardner, a neighbor at 891 E. 12th St., said the house has been abandoned for a number of years. He said someone had tried to renovate it at one time, "but they ran out of money."

His roommate, Raymond Rawson, said his landlord has told them the burned house is to be torn down.

Splinter said other people might not have seen the house start burning because it is set farther back from the road than more recently built homes.
