THATCHER -- A semi-truck caught fire outside a home here Wednesday night.
The driver of the semi arrived home, parked the truck in the driveway and 15 minutes later, the engine was on fire.
His wife called 911 shortly after 10 p.m. when she saw the truck was on fire. Firefighters rushed to the home at 9760 North and 11600 West, where they extinguished the flames within minutes.
Still, the engine and cab were totalled. The semi was not hooked up to a trailer at the time.
Sgt. David Murphy with Box Elder Sheriff's Office said it's possible something in the engine overheated while the driver was stuck on Interstate 84.
The truck driver and his wife were evacuated from the home in case the fuel tank exploded.
Murphy credited the firefighters' speedy response for keeping the situation contained.
