OGDEN -- Despite leading the entire game, Weber State had to scratch and claw to come away with an 84-75 win over Eastern Washington on Saturday at the Dee Events Center.

NCAA scoring leader Damian Lillard scored a game-high 22 points as Weber State reached the 20-win plateau for the fourth time in coach Randy Rahe's six seasons in Ogden and 25th time in 50 years of Division I basketball.

Bryon Fulton added a season-high 16 points off the bench and pulled down nine rebounds to narrowly miss having back-to-back double-doubles.

OGDEN -- Officials in eight Weber County cities have until March 31 to decide if they will pay more to the Weber County Sheriff's Office for police services or find an alternative.

The cities without their own police departments are Farr West, Hooper, Huntsville, Marriott-Slaterville, Plain City, Uintah, Washington Terrace and West Haven. The sheriff's office also serves unincorporated areas of Weber County.

PROVO — Charles Abouo was feeling it, and so were the rest of the Cougars.

Brigham Young (21-6 overall, 9-3 West Coast Conference) smashed Pepperdine 86-48 on Saturday at the Marriott Center, getting a season-best 23 points from its senior forward and cruising to its highest margin of victory this season.

Abouo, who knocked down five 3-pointers, wfinished 7 of 11 overall and also hauled in 12 rebounds to lead all players.

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona's players were lackadaisical on defense, shot 3-pointers they only hoped would go in and looked like a scared team, not one playing for the Pac-12 lead.

The Wildcats pulled together to grind out a win, but it's not what coach Sean Miller was hoping from his team, particularly not this late in the season.

Nick Johnson hit a 3-pointer with just over a minute left and had 18 points, Kyle Fogg added 17 points and Arizona shook off a lackluster first half to beat Utah 70-61 on Saturday.

Vito, an Ohio native who now lives in Sandy, trailed Russian phenom Iouri Podladtchikov (nicknamed "I-Pod") by a mere two points in the overall standings heading into Saturday's finals at the Toyota Championships. He earned a record-high 98.00 on his second run after pulling off four consecutive variations of double-cork tricks, which involve two full, head-over-heels flips.

LOGAN — For the first time this season, Wild Bill was back in action at the Spectrum, his body pained green in imitation of the pig from the popular “Angry Birds” online game.

Outside of the much-adored super fan, not much of Utah State’s game against New Mexico State represented the success of last season’s 30-4 campaign.

A lethal mix of New Mexico State’s Wendell McKines and Hernst LaRoche and a whole bunch of USU turnovers in the game’s waning minutes spelled doom for the home team. Utah State (13-13, 5-6 WAC) fell to the southern Aggies 80-69 in a Saturday afternoon game televised by ESPN2.

Family, teachers remember Powell boys at Washington funeral

TACOMA, Wash. — The family of missing Utah woman Susan Powell thanked police, social workers, teachers and everyone who cared about her two sons at a funeral Saturday for the boys who were killed by their father in a gas-fueled blaze.

The boys’ grandfather Chuck Cox also thanked people of all faiths who had prayed for 7-year-old Charlie and 5-year-old Braden after they died.

Elementary students send cards to wounded officers

OGDEN -- Christy Vu wants to thank the police officers in Ogden for protecting her and risking their lives every day to do so.

The 9-year-old Lincoln Elementary School student said she felt very sad when Ogden Police Officer Jared Francom was killed and five other officers were wounded early in January.

Christy, along with several of her classmates who are part of the YMCA after-school program, recently made get-well cards for Ogden Police Officers Shawn Grogan, Kasey Burrell and Michael Rounkles, Weber County Sheriff's Sgt. Nate Hutchinson and Roy Police Officer Jason Vanderwarf.
