Ogden native Donny Osmond hasn't quit his night job -- he's performing with sister Marie in their Las Vegas show -- but in January, he launched an afternoon radio show that can be heard on stations from San Francisco to Tallahassee, Fla., in about 40 markets across the country.
Osmond's Utah debut came last week, on B98.7 FM.
The singer/actor/game-show host/oldest-ever "Dancing With the Stars" champion (then 50, now he's 51) records audio segments, which air between blocks of locally selected music.
Osmond tells personal stories, comments on entertainment industry news, and offers his thoughts on life and tips for a healthy lifestyle.
His show airs locally between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. weekdays.
"This is Utah and he's Donny Osmond, and the two go hand in hand," said Rusty Keys, B98.7's program director. "We just think it's a really good fit."
The station staff picks upbeat music to play during the Osmond show, but it's selected from the same music the station plays regularly, Keys said. Music is contemporary, back through 2000, and a little from the '90s and '80s.
"Donny has talked about the Grammys, from his unique perspective," Keys said.
"He talks about 'Dancing With the Stars.' He's giving away tickets to his Las Vegas show every day this week. He will be doing interviews, but he's just starting out, and he's growing as he goes."
