'Lost Boys of Sudan' shows difficult journey

LOGAN -- Utah State University is hosting international film screenings on Friday nights this month.

Playing at 6 p.m. today is "God Grew Tired of Us: The Story of the Lost Boys of Sudan" (2006, PG), about four boys from Sudan who embark on a journey to America after years of danger and wandering through sub-Saharan Africa.

Playing at 6 p.m. Feb. 19 is "The Border Wall," a new documentary about the attempt by the Department of Homeland Security to erect 670 miles of walls along the 2,000-mile southern border of the United States.

The documentaries will screen in Room 121 of Old Main on campus. Screenings are free.

Romance in the air at Pleasant Valley Library

WASHINGTON TERRACE -- Two very different romances screen at the Pleasant Valley Library in the next week.

Playing at 3 p.m. Saturday is the family film "Enchanted" (2007, PG), starring Amy Adams as a princess who steps out of a fairy tale and into downtown New York City, but who keeps up her quest for a personal happily-ever-after.

Playing at 7 p.m. Wednesday is "Casablanca" (1942, PG), geared for adults, about former lovers who meet in a bar in unoccupied Africa just before the outbreak of World War II. Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman play the pair, who must deal with regrets, new plans and, ultimately, realities.

Both screenings are free at the library, at 5568 Adams Ave.

Cab driver impacts a life in 'Goodbye Solo'

OGDEN -- Peery's Egyptian Theater continues its Independent Film Series with a Monday night screening of "Goodbye Solo."

The drama (2008, R for language) tells the story of Solo, an upbeat Senegalese cab driver working in North Carolina to build a better life for his young family. Solo meets William, a Southern man with many regrets, who appears to be planning suicide. Solo decides he will try to make William's life better.

The film plays at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Egyptian, 2415 Washington Blvd. Tickets are $5, and can be purchased at the door or by calling (801) 689-8700.

"October" screened at Russian film festival

OGDEN -- Weber State University's Soviet Russian Film Festival continues Wednesday with "October," better known as "10 Days That Shook the World."

The 1928 silent film, in black and white and 95 minutes long, was directed by Grigori Aleksandrov and Sergei M. Eisenstein, and tells the violent story of the 1917 Russian Revolution.

The screening is at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Wildcat Theater, in the Shepherd Union Building, WSU, 3848 Harrison Blvd. The screening is free.
