OGDEN -- The Peery's Independent Film Series returns Monday with a screening of "American Violet."
The 2008 film, rated PG-13, is based on the true story of Dee Roberts, the single Texas mother of four young girls, who was wrongly accused of dealing drugs. She is faced with the choice of pleading guilty and returning home as a convicted felon, or pleading not guilty and risk a long prison term and the loss of her children. She chooses the latter.
The film, directed by Tim Disney, screens at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the theater, 2415 Washington Blvd. Admission is $5.

'Driving Miss Daisy,' 'Incredibles' shown
WASHINGTON TERRACE -- The month of twice-weekly Oscar films continues at the Pleasant Valley Branch of the Weber County Library, with two films about overcoming obstacles.
* "The Incredibles," winner in 2004 for Best Animated Film, screens at 3 p.m. Saturday. The PG-rated film, about a family of undercover superheroes fighting crime, features the voices of Holly Hunter and Craig T. Nelson.
* "Driving Miss Daisy," the 1989 Best Picture winner, screens at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The PG film also won best-actor Oscars for Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman, starring as an elderly Jewish widow and her African-American driver. It's a story about respect and friendship that grew between an unlikely pair, despite the racial prejudice of the 1950s South.
Both screenings are free. Pleasant Valley Library is at 5568 Adams Ave.
