Johnny and Anne Morris were both working in the food and beverage service industry when they met and married. In 2007, they opened Cafe Ville Bella, fulfilling Anne Morris' dream to run her own coffee shop.
"We wanted it to be a coffee shop with great food, but it has turned into a restaurant with great coffee," Johnny Morris said of the restaurant's evolution over the years.
The owners place a lot of importance on supporting the local economy. Rimini, a local roasting company, supplies the coffee beans, and Carlo's, a local fruit and vegetable vendor, supplies the produce.
Anne Morris earned a culinary arts degree in San Francisco and used her talents to develop the current menu. She also taught her husband how to do the cooking so that she could spend more time at home with their two young daughters.
Soups, made daily from scratch, include the popular Tomato Bisque ($3.14/$4.15), thick and creamy with fresh basil; spicy Shrimp Bisque ($3.95/$4.95), made with a lobster and clam base, fresh shrimp, tomatoes, onions and peppers; and rich French Onion ($4.20), topped with homemade croutons and expensive Swiss cheese.
Every day, a variety of cupcakes are displayed for purchase in the pastry case. Some of the favorite flavors are White Chocolate Raspberry ($1.95), topped with fresh raspberries and white chocolate sprinkles; and Strawberry ($1.95), a strawberry cupcake with strawberry frosting and a chocolate-dipped strawberry on top.
For breakfast, the menu includes the Breakfast Burrito ($4.50), a flour tortilla stuffed with a choice of meat or vegetarian ingredients including sausage, eggs, tomatoes, onions, peppers, spinach and cheese; fresh scones ($1.40); oatmeal ($1.50) topped with brown sugar, Craisins and almonds; and a Breakfast Sandwich ($3.25) with meat, eggs and cheese on ciabatta bread.
For lunch, popular picks are the Chicken Salad Sandwich ($6.50), topped with Craisins, almonds, lettuce, tomato and served with a side of fruit; or the Strawberry Bleu Cheese Salad ($6.75), a bed of mixed greens with candied pecans, fresh strawberries, crumbled gorgonzola and strawberry vinaigrette.
The Morrises see a lot of students from nearby Weber State University, as well as employees from area businesses. They provide a relaxed, friendly atmosphere -- complete with Wi-Fi -- that is great for a study break or conducting business.
