Student earns academic honors
WINFIELD, Kan. -- Cameron Swanson, of Syracuse, has earned a place on Southwestern College's Dean's Honor Roll for the spring 2010 semester.
Full-time students who earned grade point averages of at least 3.70 were eligible for the honor. Southwestern College is a private institution granting undergraduate and graduate degrees and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. More than 1,900 students attend classes at the main Winfield campus, at five professional studies sites in Kansas and Oklahoma, or online around the world.
Four receive Jiffy Lube scholarships
Four Top of Utah high school students have earned scholarships for the 2009-10 school year from the "What Drives You?" scholarship program funded by Utah Jiffy Lube owners.
Tyler Hammond of Davis High School and Ross Marabella of Box Elder High School will be awarded $1,000 each as regional scholarship awardees in the teen driver category, which includes all high school students of driving age.
In the driver's ed student category, Liesl Roberts of Woods Cross High School and David Sommer of Roy High School will be awarded $1,000 each.
The "What Drives You?" scholarship program is open to all teen drivers as well as students enrolled in drivers ed in Utah high schools and private driving schools across the state. Students are asked to submit a 500-word essay detailing what drives them now, as an opportunity to express their inner drive and ambitions. Range of interests from the winning entries included anthropology, video game design, writing novels, and neuroscience. The scholarships are open to all students regardless of test scores or grades, currently enrolled in high school.
