Five free screenings for kids, families

Free screenings this week include a vintage cowboy tale, three 2009 releases and a Disney classic.

"Aliens in the Attic," a RAMP-sponsored screening, plays at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday in Peery's Egyptian Theater, 2415 Washington Blvd., Ogden. This 2009 PG-rated family film tells the story of kids who must protect their vacation home from an alien invasion.

"Lady and the Tramp" plays at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Pleasant Valley Library, 5568 Adams Ave., Washington Terrace. This 1955 G-rated Disney tale tells the story of a street mongrel who rescues a pampered cocker spaniel.

"McLintock!" plays at dusk Monday, about 9:15 p.m., in the Ogden Amphitheater, 343 Historic 25th St., Ogden. John Wayne stars in this 1963 Western comedy/drama as a cattle baron who battles his wife, daughter, land grabbers and everyone else who gets in his way.

 "Astro Boy" will be screened Monday at dusk in Mountain View Park, 875 E. 300 North, North Ogden. The 2009 PG film tells the story of a robot boy and his dream of fitting in.

"Julie and Julia" plays at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Pleasant Valley Library. Meryl Streep and Amy Adams appear in this 2009 PG-13 film about women finding their way in the kitchen and in life. A cooking demonstration precedes the film at 6:30 p.m.

Sensory-friendly 'Despicable Me'

LAYTON -- The Layton Hills 9 theater will offer a sensory-friendly screening of "Despicable Me" for autistic movie lovers and their friends and family on Saturday.

House lights will be brought up and sound will be turned down, and families will be allowed to bring in their own gluten-free, casein-free snacks. Audience members will be allowed to dance, walk, shout or sing.

The PG-rated animated film plays at 10 a.m. Saturday. Tickets are $10, at the door.

The theater is at 728 W. 1425 North.
