Con man, librarian make music at Rodgers

CENTERVILLE -- Wanna play?

"The Music Man" opens a week from tonight at Rodgers Memorial Theatre. The musical tells the story of a con man and the 1912 Iowa town of would-be musicians that plays along, at least for a while.

Memorable songs include "(Ya Got) Trouble," "Goodnight My Someone," "Marian the Librarian" and "Shipoopi."

Shows are at 7:30 p.m. daily, excluding Sundays, July 30 through Aug. 28, at the theater, 292 E. Pages Lane. Tickets are $14 to $17, $13 to $15 for seniors, $10 for children.

Imagine dancers put practice to test at show

OGDEN -- Come see what participants in Imagine Ballet Theatre's Summer Intensive Program have learned at a performance next Friday.

After a month of exploring such dance styles as classical ballet, hip-hop and Bob Fosse-style jazz, the dancers are ready to showcase their skills at the Summer Intensive 2010 Performance at Peery's Egyptian Theater, 2415 Washington Blvd.

The performance starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5, plus a $1 preservation fee for the theater.

The dancers studied with a Summer Intensive staff of professional dancers and dance teachers.

WSU nontraditional students host party

OGDEN -- Kids who like to make arts and crafts are invited to a party.

Weber State University's Nontraditional Student Center is hosting a Kids Art Party from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday on the Tracy Plaza, southeast of the Shepherd Union Building, on campus at 3848 Harrison Blvd., Ogden.

Activities for children, age 17 and younger, include making headbands, beading, creating sun visors and suncatchers, and decorating inspirational rocks and canvas bags. Kids who want to create a scrapbook page should bring a picture to use as a centerpiece.

Additional activities are available to Purple Pals, members of the center's kids club. Membership is open to children of WSU students, and costs $5. With membership, kids receive a T-shirt, fun pack and access to special activities. At the art party, Purple Pals can make birdhouses and tour an art gallery in the Browning Center.
