This week United Way of Northern Utah would like to feature McKay-Dee Hospital as its spotlighted volunteer opportunity. There are a whole slew of reasons why we would like to highlight this phenomenal institution.

Not only has McKay-Dee provided nationally recognized health care to Northern Utah residents, but this year is the 100th anniversary of this non-profit hospital. Annie Taylor Dee built the Thomas D. Dee Memorial Hospital in 1910 after the loss of her husband and son, who died as a result of inadequate health care. One hundred years later, her hospital provides outstanding, not-for-profit services that have helped to save countless lives within our own community.

Something else happening within this organization is the opening of a new guest house just east of the hospital. The beautiful new facility, named after Annie Taylor Dee, has rooms to hold 14 guests at minimal cost. The convenience this service offers is a lifesaver for many families of patients who wish to stay close to their loved ones.

With the opening of the new guesthouse coming Aug. 2, McKay-Dee needs several volunteers to come dedicate several hours each day to the guest house. Duties will include settling families into their rooms and making sure they are comfortable during their stay. This opportunity is an ongoing need, with shifts available each day for just a few hours. This is a great way to give back to this hospital for all the ways it has served our community for the past 100 years. For more information, contact Noelee Shaw at 801-387-7179.
