Historic 25th St., Ogden. A lecture at the free event is titled "Maturing and Healing the Soul Beyond Organized Religion."

A native of Denmark, Hannah Thomsen immigrated to the United States and married Ed Thomsen in 1981. Hannah ultimately leaves the church as she is drawn toward other beliefs, including reincarnation, spirit guides and extraterrestrial civilizations.

l Helena, Mont., author Carl James will be talking about and signing copies of his novels from "The Sands of Time" series (Quillmaat Publishing, $12.95) from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Hastings Books, 340 E. 525 North, Harrisville. This is a free event.

l Comedian Chelsea Handler will sign copies of her book "Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang" (Grand Central Publishing, $25.99) at 5 p.m. Friday at Sam Weller's Bookstore, 254 S. Main St., Salt Lake City. Born in Livingston, N.J., to a Jewish father and a Mormon mother, Handler is the youngest of six children. She is the star and host of E!'s "Chelsea Lately."

In this new collection of essays, Handler comically delivers moment after another as she sets her sights on the ridiculous side of childhood, adulthood and daughterhood.

l Eden author Wendy Toliver will be signing copies of her new book "Lifted" (Simon Pulse, $9.99) from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at Barnes & Noble, 1780 N. Woodland Park Drive, Layton. Toliver's previous books include "The Secret Life of a Teenage Siren" and "Miss Match."

Toliver's new book tells the story of Poppy Browne, a teenager who is not too thrilled to be the new girl in Pleasant Acres, Texas -- especially after her mother enrolls her in a private Baptist school. But to her delight, Poppy is pulled into the cool clique and her new friends are as genuinely nice as they are gorgeous and rich.

The catch? Her new pals have a nasty shoplifting habit, and before long Poppy is also a theft enthusiast. Visit www.wendytoliver.com for more information.

l The "Stalk" Lake Scavenger Hunt, beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, invites teams to prove they know Salt Lake City best while competing to win a $1,000 donation to a nonprofit of their choice. The prize is donated by Utah author Sheralyn Pratt and local businesses. Teams representing nonprofits will start at Liberty Park and follow clues to collect 10 cards from businesses on their way to the finish line at Pioneer Park Farmers Market.

The event celebrates the release of "Welcome to Stalk Lake City" (Bonneville, $14.99), the second book in Pratt's series. In the book, Rhea Jensen moves from her home in Los Angeles to Salt Lake City, trying to take a break from the private investigating business, but she ends up working on a stalking case in the state. Book one in the series is titled "City of Angels." More information on both books is available at www.sheralynpratt.com.

For more information and rules regarding the event, visit http://stalklake5k.blogspot.com. Teams representing legitimate nonprofit organizations are invited to participate.
