RIVERDALE
RDA to consider smaller setback
The Redevelopment Agency Board has agreed to consider a use request from Jiffy Lube for a parcel between McDonalds and Home Depot on 900 West.
Business Development Director Randy Daily said the parcel is too small for most retail uses and that a Jiffy Lube could not meet required setbacks, but the board could rezone the property and allow for reduced setbacks.

Deployed military to get fee waiver
Council members voted unanimously to approve fee waivers for city residents who are deployed in the military.
In an earlier council meeting, resident and Boy Scout Daniel Wakefield asked the council consider a fee waiver for military families with a deployed member. Wakefield said his father is currently deployed.
In order to have city fees waived, a military member needs to bring deployment orders into the city offices at 4160 W. 2200 North. They will be reviewed by Mayor Jay Jenkins on a case by case basis. The waiver will apply to the head of household or a spouse who is deployed and the fees will be waived for the length of the deployment.
Resident wants horse to eat weeds
Resident Josh Bell said there is a problem with weeds at a detention basin near his property at 3551 W. 2425 North and said the weeds are so tall they are over his head.
"They are kind of getting out of control," said Bell. "I have proposed putting a horse in there, and I'm proposing it again. I know there are city ordinances about weeds."
Bell said a horse would eat the weeds and he said he would complete the partial fence around the detention basin at his own expense.
Mayor Jay Jenkins said the city would pursue the issue and apologized to Bell for the delay, but Bell still does not have permission to put a horse or fence on the detention basin.
