Clothing Swap for all ages, 6-8 p.m., Unitarian Universalist Church, 705 23rd Street, Ogden. Bring clothes for adults and children. You can trade as many clothes as you bring so if you have 30 articles of clothing with you then you can go and pick 30 to take home with you. As we have no way to clean clothing that night all clothing must be clean (fresh out of the washer and dryer) and in good repair. We will also be swapping school supplies so bring your extra paper, pencils, back packs, calculators, crayons etc. We are also looking for volunteers to help with set up and cleaning up afterwards. Habitat for Humanity of Weber and Davis Counties will host a groundbreaking ceremony to kick-off our new home building project located at 706 E. 2100 South, Ogden, 5:30 pm., Aug. 27. This is a great opportunity for the community and volunteers to learn about this project. Habitat for Humanity of Weber and Davis Counties has recently selected two new partner families, one of which will receive this new home (Cora Miller and her four children) and the other (Elizabeth Guerrero and her two children) will receive the nearly completed rehab project at 128 Doxey Street, Ogden, after they have completed all of the "Sweat Equity" hours and other requirements necessary to complete the program. Both families will be on-site for everyone to meet. Building Better Communities will also host a luau celebration and fund raiser immediately following the groundbreaking ceremony, 6-9 p.m. at the Sustainable Building Center, 2236 Washington Blvd. Barbecue and refreshments will be provided along with some fun activities for the family for a suggested donation of $10 per person or $25 for up to a family of five.

The 35th annual Retiree Appreciation Day will be held 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27 at Club Hill Ballroom, Hill AFB. Defensive driving classes offered by Utah Safety Council, four-hour defensive driving courses for individuals in the Ogden area, 8 a.m.-noon, two Saturdays per month; 6-10 p.m., one Tuesday per month. Drivers may complete the course for a 50-point reduction from their Utah driving record, once every three years. B.R.I.D.G.E.S. (Building Recovery of Individual Dreams and Goals through Education and Support), a 10-week course for consumers of mental health services and those interested in establishing and maintaining their wellness and recovery, begins Thursday, Sept. 16, from 7-9 p.m. at Weber Human Services, 237 26th Street, Ogden, room 245. Topics include: brain biology and mental illness, medications review, schizophrenia and mood disorders, anxiety disorders, problem-solving and communication, building support and crisis avoidance planning, community support services, healthy living and whole-body healing. It is a peer-to-peer class taught by trained individuals who have personal experience with mental illness. Great Salt Lake Audubon 9th Annual Gala Fundraiser, 6-9 p.m., Sept. 16, Episcopal Church Center of Utah, 75 S. 100 East, Salt Lake City.

Issued August 9, 2010. The theme of this year's event is "Bucks for Birds". Gala activities include a social hour with a silent auction, a sit-down dinner with a raffle and "Heads and Tails" game, and a live auction. Proceeds from the gala support GSLA activities throughout the year. The cost for the Gala is $45 per person and $500 for a table of eight. 25th Annual Wildwoods BASH by Ogden Nature Center, 5 p.m., Sept. 18, in the glen behind the visitor center at Ogden Nature Center, 966 W. 12th Street. The evening includes supper by favorite local chefs, live jazz and an auction of outdoor gear, nature art, fun experiences and other nature-related items. This year's auction will include: an original oil painting by Doug Braithwaite and other original works of art, a home composter, gold status, limited edition photograph by Thomas Mangelson, hand-knit scarves and jewelry by local artists, over night stay for a party of up to 12 people at Ogden Nature Center's tree house, outdoor adventures both far away and close to home, and awesome outdoor gear by Patagonia.
