Hill retirees to be recognized

The 35th annual Retiree Appreciation Day will be held 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at Club Hill Ballroom, Hill AFB. The event will provide resources and information for all military retirees and their families. Guest speaker will be Rick Jones, a legislative analyst for the National Association for the Uniformed Services. There will be exhibits from base facilities including the clinic, Tri-Care, commissary and Hill Aerospace Museum. Exhibits will include blood pressure screening, a massage clinic and Defense Finance and Accounting Service representative will be available with laptops to fix or update attendees' accounts right there. Retirees of all military branches and their families are invited. Arts fest needs food, craft vendors

Vendors are wanted for the Plain City Harvest Arts Festival which will be held Sept. 18 at the Plain City Town Square, 2350 N. 4425 West.

Organizers are looking for food vendors, handmade arts and crafts and homegrown produce. Booth space is $25. There is no charge for Farmers' Market space. Vendor applications are available at www.plaincityutah.org. To reserve space for the Farmers' Market, call Chris Weicks at 801-731-7524.

Hispanic Chamber to hold golf tourney

The seventh annual Ogden Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament is set for Aug. 27 at Mount Ogden Golf Course. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the shotgun start begins at 9 a.m.

Team registrations are still available at $300 per team of four. Individual golfers can register for $80, which includes green fees, cart and lunch.

All proceeds benefit the Ogden Hispanic Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship fund, and the major sponsor of the tournament is Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah.

Library starts youth chess club

Players of all skill levels ages 4 to 18 are invited to join the Weber County Library Youth Chess Club. All supplies will be provided. This program is free and no registration is required.

The club meets Tuesdays at 4 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Branch, 5568 Adams Ave., Ogden; Wednesdays at 3:30 at Ogden Valley Branch, 131 S. 7400 East, Huntsville; and Wednesdays at 4:15 p.m., Main Library, 2464 Jefferson Ave., Ogden. For more information, call Phoebe Carter at 801-337-2639.
