BASH brings food, jazz, art
OGDEN -- Fine food, jazzy music and an auction are in the works for the Wildwoods BASH.
This year's BASH is the 25th annual fundraiser for the Ogden Nature Center. The casual outdoor affair starts at 5 p.m. Sept. 18, in the glen behind the Visitor Center at 966 W. 12th St. Tickets are $60 per person, or $1,000 for a table for eight. Reservations are due Tuesday.
Dinner will be prepared by chefs from several local restaurants, and the meal will be accompanied by live jazz.
An auction of nature-related items includes original artwork, handmade jewelry, outdoor gear and a home composter. One bidder will win an overnight stay, for up to 12 people, in the nature center's tree house. Outdoor adventure packages are also on the auction block, including a Cessna ride above Ogden, birding/photography experiences, and a moonlight canoe trip to Causey Reservoir to watch the kokanee spawn.

Puppet museum reopens
BRIGHAM CITY --The World of Puppetry Museum reopens Saturday, with free activities from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The museum has been closed to replace carpet and repair walls.
Puppet history tours, demonstrations and puppet-making are a few of the activities at the museum. A "Punch & Judy" show starts at 3 p.m., followed at 4 p.m. by puppet story time.
The World of Puppetry Museum is open 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. the first and third Saturday of each month in the Fine Arts Center, 58 S. 100 West, Brigham City. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

Turn to wild side at center
OGDEN -- Wild Wednesdays offer Ogden Nature Center visitors the chance to learn more about animals, with programs at 3:30 p.m. each week.
* Sept. 8 -- "Wild Autographs." Learn about the autographs (footprints) animals leave behind.
* Sept. 15 -- "Close Encounters of the Natural Kind." Peer through a microscope to see what the world looks like to an ant.
* Sept. 22 -- "Fall Into Autumn." Learn how plants and animals adapt to changing weather.
* Sept. 29 -- "Mammal Mia!" Mammals of Utah are the focus of this program. Activities include touching pelts and skulls.
Admission to the Ogden Nature Center, 966 W. 12th St., is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors and $2 for children.

Historian reflects on Logan
LOGAN -- Cache Valley historian Darrin Smith will present "Logan Reflections," starting at 7 p.m. Sept. 10, in the Logan Tabernacle.
Smith's presentation covers 150 years of Logan history, in pictures and words.
The free program is part of an ongoing concert and lecture series at the tabernacle, 50 N. Main St.

Enjoy cool cars, ice cream
KAYSVILLE -- Start your engines, and cruise into town for some ice cream.
Cold Cones and Cool Cars, an event put on by the Kaysville/Fruit Heights Civic Committee, starts at 4 p.m. Wednesday, and runs until 7 p.m., on Kaysville's Main Street. Admission is free.
The car show is held in the parking lot of PepperBellys restaurant, 141 N. Main St., with overflow show parking at nearby Egan's Automotive Repair and Sanders Office Systems. Registration is free, on-site, but the first 50 preregistered cars get a dash plaque. To preregister, send an e-mail to egslow1@msn.com.
Ice cream cones, also free, will be served across the street on the lawn of the city offices.
Donations will be accepted at the event, from those who would like to help buy fuel to light the star on the mountain above Fruit Heights during the holidays.

Revisit Hollywood's heyday
LOGAN -- The 1940s were a time of war, but also a time of glamorous entertainment. The 2010 Celebrate America show takes audience members back to 1942, with "Hooray For Hollywood!"
Set in Hollywood's famous Coconut Grove, the big band-big production show features musical numbers from some of Hollywood's biggest movies, including "Singin' in the Rain," "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" and "White Christmas."
After the show, guests are invited to dance -- or just listen -- while the Larry Smith Orchestra and Celebrate America Singers perform tunes from Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey, including "In The Mood," "Tuxedo Junction" and "Pennsylvania 6-5000."
Shows start at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, and 8 p.m. Thursday through Sept. 11. Tickets cost $27. Starting Thursday, there is an optional grand buffet dinner at 7 p.m.; tickets for the dinner and show range from $50 to $55, depending on seating.

Journey to Peru on exhibit
OGDEN -- Students who went to Peru with a Weber State University study abroad program from the art department took a lot of pictures. Several of those photos are on display in the Shepherd Union Art Gallery.
"Peru Summer 2010" may be viewed 7:30 a.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays, through Oct. 13. The Shepherd Union Art Gallery is in the university's union building, on campus at 3848 Harrison Blvd., Ogden. Admission is free.
