Garden club plans to discuss bonsai

The Ogden Garden Club will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Ogden Village Inn, 322 12th St. Speaker will be Aaron Penrod from Utah Bonsai Club of Utah from Salt Lake City. GOP Women to meet candidates

The monthly meeting of the Weber County Republican Women will be at noon Monday at Rickenbacker's Restaurant, 4282 S. 1640 West, south of Ogden-Hinckley Airport. Sons of Pioneers to meet Monday

The Ogden Pioneer Chapter Sons of the Utah Pioneers will meet at noon Monday at Comfort Suites Inn, 2250 S. 1200 West.

The speakers will be Wallace E. Haun, a retired railway mail clerk, and Robert E. Francis, a retired school administrator. The subject will be 21st Century Pioneers.

A trek is planned for September to Cache Cave.

Potential members are welcome to attend. The cost of one meeting for potential members is paid by the chapter. For other guests there is a $12.50 charge.

Breast care center is accredited

The specialty breast care center at McKay-Dee Hospital has been granted a three-year full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Center.

The program, administered by the American College of Surgeons, gives accreditation to centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review.

McKay-Dee is currently the only accredited breast care center in Utah.

RIVERDALE

Weber 912 group to hear Byrne

The Weber 912 group will meet at 7 p.m. today at Christian Heritage High School, 5120 S. 1050 West.

The topic will be how government activities harm small business. Patrick Byrne of Overstock.com, a Utah-based internet retailer that has been publicly traded since 2002, will be guest speaker.

Byrne believes that, along with economic freedom, education is the foundation of a healthy society.

Byrne has founded 19 schools internationally and is a champion of educational freedom in the United States.

Also, two tickets to America's Freedom Conference in Salt Lake on Sept. 18 will be raffled for $1 per ticket. The tickets are valued at $45 each and include lunch.
