Bounce into Plain City for 'Mattress' tractors

PLAIN CITY -- "Handmade and Home Grown" is the theme of this year's Plain City Harvest Arts Festival.

The festival kicks off Sept. 17, with homegrown actors performing in the musical "Once Upon a Mattress." The show starts at 7:30 p.m. in the church across the street from the Plain City Town Square, 2350 N. 4425 West. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for ages 12 and younger, and may be purchased in advance at the city offices. Tickets will also be sold at the door, but seating is limited.

The show repeats at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sept. 18.

The Town Square hosts a farmers and art market from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 18. Fresh produce will be for sale, as well as handmade arts and crafts and food.

Entertainment throughout the day includes kids activities and demonstrations of old-time crafts. There will also be a display of vintage tractors.

Several locals are performing during the festival:

10 a.m. -- Colby Peterson

11 a.m. -- Five Minus One

11:25 a.m. -- Cast members of "Once Upon A Mattress"

Noon -- All Down But Nine

1 p.m. -- The Series

3 p.m. -- Stampede

4:25 p.m. -- The Wiser Family

5 p.m. -- The Beam Me Up Ska-T's

Everyone is invited to get into the act at the scarecrow contest. Entries are due at 9:30 a.m. and will be on display throughout the day. Scarecrows donated to the arts council will be sold to support council projects.

Admission to all festival events, except the musical, is free, thanks to sponsorship of the Plain City Arts Council and a grant from the Recreation, Arts, Museums and Parks tax program.
