Women raise voices in 'Sugar and Spice'

OGDEN -- Utah Opera resident artists will offer a program, "Sugar and Spice: A Musical Celebration of Women," on Tuesday in the Browning Center at Weber State University.

The vocal program, sponsored by the Ogden Opera Guild and the WSU performing arts department, will include four singers doing music from "South Pacific," and works by Stephen Sondheim, Leonard Bernstein, Mozart, Bizet and Puccini. Works represented will include "Rigoletto," "Carmen," "Annie Get Your Gun" and "Sweeney Todd."

The program is at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Garrison Choral Room, Browning Center, WSU, 3848 Harrison Blvd. The program is free.

'Christmas Carol' is last show in old theater

CENTERVILLE -- It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Rodgers Memorial Theatre opens Madison Square Garden's "A Christmas Carol," its final show in its current theater, 292 E. Pages Lane, at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 26, with shows at 7:30 p.m. daily, excluding Sundays, through Dec. 23.

Tickets are $14-$17, $13-$15 for seniors, $10 for children. Call 801-298-1302 for information.

Next year, Rodgers Memorial Theatre takes the name CenterPointe Legacy Theatre and moves to a new building.

Scrooge humbugging around Plaza Playhouse

WASHINGTON TERRACE -- Terrace Plaza Playhouse opens its annual production of "Scrooge - A Christmas Carol' a week from tonight.

It's the theater's own adaptation of the Charles Dickens tale, about a miser who gets a second chance to be generous and humane.

The show plays at 7:30 p.m. Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays, Nov. 26 through Dec. 23 at the theater, 99 E. 4700 South. Tickets are $10-$12, with discounts for students and seniors. Call 801-393-0070 for information.

'Summer Nights' sizzle for Syracuse students

SYRACUSE -- Students at Syracuse High School will present "Grease" today and Saturday.

The 1971 musical, a loving tribute to the 1950s, features songs including "Summer Nights," "Since I Don't Have You" and "Beauty School Dropout."

The show will be presented at 7 p.m. today and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, at the school, 665 S. 2000 West. Tickets, available at the door, are $5 to $8, with discounts for students and seniors.

Santa's elves on the job at Pickleville Playhouse

LOGAN -- Those Pickleville Playhouse elves are at it again, presenting their annual production of "Santa's Elves: The North Pole Musical," opening a week from tonight.

The show will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 26 and Dec. 1, 3, 4, 7, 10, 11, 16-18, 20 and 23, and 3 p.m. Dec. 23, at the Eccles Conference Center at Utah State University, 1400 Old Main Hill.

Show tickets are $16, $10 for children. Evening shows come with a 6 p.m. dinner option, and cost $32, $19 for children, for dinner and the show. Call 435-755-0968.

Dinner and a murder mystery anyone?

HARRISVILLE -- Not beginning to feel a little bit like Christmas?

No problem. There's a comedy murder mystery at 7 p.m. Saturday at Boccia's D'Italia, 1045 N. Washington Blvd.

The show is "Hammer Spade: The Steel Murder," a 1940s detective-inspired show.
