OGDEN -- Ogden's art galleries are filling up with new art for the new year.
The new exhibits officially open during the First Friday Art Stroll, starting at 6 p.m. Jan. 7. The stroll gives people a chance to enjoy exhibits after regular gallery hours, with many shops staying open until 9 p.m. and offering the opportunity to meet the artists.
Most of the participating art venues are along Historic 25th Street, from Wall Avenue to Washington Boulevard, making it possible to walk from gallery to gallery. A few more are on surrounding streets. Admission is free.
For more information about the stroll, call 801-393-3866 or visit the Ogden Arts website, http://artsogden.org.
* Universe City presents "Basin and Range VI: An Artistic Response to Our Mountains." The geographical area covers the Wasatch and Sierra Nevada mountains, and the valley between them. Past shows have concentrated on the landscape, but this year's exhibit features art focused on the fauna of the area. Most of the images on display will be photographs taken by Holland Banks. Banks, of Bountiful, is a freelance photographer who also works at the Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area.
Reception, 5-9 p.m. next Friday at 2556 Washington Blvd., Ogden. The exhibit continues 5-8 p.m. Fridays, and 1-5 p.m. Saturdays, through Jan. 22. Other hours by appointment. 801-458-8959. Free.
* Eccles Community Art Center hosts an exhibit of works by members of the Palette Club of Ogden in the Main Gallery, and a group show by other local artists in the Carriage House.
