New maintenance contract in place

City officials have approved a new heating and maintenance contract for 2011 with Comfort Systems, for $7,763.

The city council approved the contract with the HVAC company at a recent meeting by a 5-0.

Comfort Systems was one of three bidders for the yearly contract and their bid was $1,600 higher than the low bidder, but several city officials noted the company knows the city’s systems well and has done good work in the past.

Keith Johnson, finance director, also noted the HVAC company worked an additional 40 hours over and above the base maintenance hours in 2010 and charged only $80 an hour for the work.

He noted the low bidder charged $120 an hour, which would make up the difference in the base contract, if the same trend continues this year.

The council approved the contract without discussion.
