For those who choose the dinner-and-concert package, the Valentine's show on Saturday at Peery's Egyptian Theater kicks off with dinner, prepared by Eccles Conference Center chef Dave Fuentes, in the center's junior ballroom.
It includes French onion soup, beef with bearnaise sauce and Cajun rock shrimp, as well as delightfully tempting desserts sure to set your heart running wild. A cash bar is available for those who want to accompany their meal with adult beverages.
Those who opt for the show-only package, a concert by the Mundy Mourning Blues Band, certainly won't go hungry.
"Over at the Egyptian, we will also have the concessions open for the night. We do have lovely beer on tap, as well as popcorn to munch. So, for people who prefer not to have dinner, they can have a little popcorn, a little beer and have the wonderful experience of hearing Randy's band play," said Terri McGhee, the theater's general manager and organizer of the dinner and concert.
In past years, the Egyptian has featured a romantic film to go with its Valentine's Day shindig. But McGhee, in her first year as manager, decided to try something new to tempt sweethearts and friends alike.
"We have had some fine successes with the live concerts," she said. "I am already working on the season for 2011-2012, and we are going heavy in the music direction, because that seems to be what people really like.
"And as for bringing in a little blues for Valentine's Day -- we wanted to be kind of fun. I have a number of friends who don't much like Valentine's Day, both married and single friends. So I thought, maybe some good blues will cheer them up! I figured we'd give it a try and see how it goes. I want to see if Ogden likes the blues -- I kind of suspect it will."
