OGDEN -- The first Spring Taste of Home Cooking School is just around the corner -- and experts are ready to offer up tasty recipes, tricks and techniques for everyday cooking.
The show will be March 15 in the Weber State University Shepherd Union Building. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. VIP tickets, which include reserved seating and the "Quick Cooking Annual Recipes" cookbook, are also available for $35.
The Standard-Examiner has sponsored the show in the fall for more than 20 years. This is the first year the newspaper, along with Weber State University, Macey's, Kiesel Sales and Service, and the Utah State University Extension Service, will sponsor the show in the spring, said Jennifer Thorpe, of the Standard-Examiner promotions department.
"We are expecting around 600 to 700 people this year," Thorpe said. "The Taste of Home magazine is a national publication that is very popular. Taste of Home works with national sponsors to come up with new recipes that are both easy and delicious."
This year, the show will feature Kristi Larson, a professional culinary specialist from Taste of Home Productions Inc. in Greendale, Wis. Larson will prepare several recipes onstage as well as offer cooking tips to the audience.
Thorpe said the cooking show features many of the magazine's recipes, along with tricks and techniques for the everyday cook.
Cami Roberts, also a spokeswoman for the Standard-Examiner, said this is the first year that Taste of Home has agreed to come to the Top of Utah for a spring show.
"This means brand-new recipes and sponsors," she said. "For years, attendees at the fall show have requested a spring Taste of Home Cooking Show so they could get more spring- and summer-type recipes and ideas."
The first 700 attendees will receive a free gift bag that includes the "Spring Taste of Home Cooking Show" cookbook. Dozens of prizes will be given away during the show, including products, gift bags of groceries and gift certificates from Maceys.
"The shows have been and continue to be very popular," Thorpe said. "They are educational and entertaining, and we give away a ton of great prizes."
Doors open at 4 p.m. for boutique shopping. The show starts at 7 p.m.
