Author events this week at The King's English's Bookshop include:
* Virginia author Rita Mae Brown reads from and signs her new mystery "Hiss of Death" (Bantam, $26) at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Brown is the best-selling author of several novels, including the Sneaky Pie Brown series, the Sister Jane series, "A Nose for Justice," "In Her Day," "Six of One" and "Rubyfruit Jungle."
* Utah author Brandon Mull reads from and signs the first book in his new series for middle readers, "Beyonders: A World Without Heroes" (Aladdin, $19.99), at 7 p.m. Thursday. Mull is the best-selling author of the Fablehaven series.

l The Utah Museum of Fine Arts hosts noted author, speaker, and University of Utah professor Craig Dworkin for a public lecture titled "Viral Jetty: The Smithson Effect in Literature."
The lecture begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Katherine W. and Ezekiel R. Dumke Jr. auditorium at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts. The museum is at 10 Campus Center Drive, University of Utah, Salt Lake City. The program, which is presented in conjunction with the UMFA's current exhibition "The Smithson Effect," is free and open to the public.
