Bird refuge birthday added to celebration
BRIGHAM CITY -- It's two celebrations in one -- an "Earth Day Birthday" at the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge on Saturday.
The event, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., marks both Earth Day and the birthday of the refuge, founded in 1928.
Activities at the Wildlife Education Center, 2155 W. Forest St., include a bird identification quiz, a refuge history/mystery game, movies, educational displays and hourly watershed demonstrations.
Outdoors, visitors can listen for migrating birds arriving at the refuge, take a guided tour along the half-mile nature trail or look for creepy critters in the wetlands. A Junior Ranger program for ages 6 to 13 will spotlight conservation.
Admission is free.
