A cappella group rocks out for a good cause
OGDEN -- Vocalocity will perform "a cappella that rocks" during a community fundraiser on April 29.
The benefit event for Bob Eggett of Washington Terrace runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Shepherd Union Ballroom at Weber State University, 3848 Harrison Blvd.
An Ogden-based a cappella group, Vocalocity will give a free concert at 7 p.m. The evening also includes live and silent auctions, a bake sale and a kids corner.
Dinner will be served at 5 p.m., with food provided by the Texas Roadhouse restaurant. Cost is $5 per person or $25 per family.
Eggett, a Washington Terrace father of six, had a brain tumor removed in 2004 and has had two subsequent surgeries during 2011. The fundraiser is organized by the group Anything for a Friend to help the family with medical expenses.
During the event, participants can make donations to adopt a balloon, and then write messages of love and support to Eggett and his family on the balloons.
Admission is free; tickets for kids corner activities are 50 cents.

New Ogden orchestra tunes up for debut
OGDEN -- A new professional orchestra in Ogden makes its official debut at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Chamber Orchestra Ogden, led by Michael Palumbo, director of orchestral studies at Weber State University, plays at the Browning Theater in Ogden's Union Station, 2501 Wall Ave.
Thanks to support from organizers of the Union Station Foundation and Downtown Ogden, Inc., the COO will make the Browning Theater its home base for performances and rehearsals.
The orchestra's members include graduates of the WSU music program as well as other professional-level musicians from Weber County and beyond.
The one-hour program will be followed by a reception, so that attendees can meet the members of the orchestra. The COO will start a three-show season in the fall.
