Business award may be introduced in Syracuse

City leaders are eager to promote the business community and are talking about introducing a new semi-annual award, to bring attention to some businesses in the community.

Officials talked over the merits of introducing a “Friend of the Community” business award, which acknowledges the contributions a business makes to the area.

The program would be administered by the city’s Community Development Department, in conjunction with the mayor and two council members.

The honor would be given out semi-annually, according to City Manager Bob Rice, who said issuing an award monthly would be too often, and on a yearly basis, not often enough.

The first unveiling of the award is scheduled for the June 28 city council meeting.
